             Kelly Martinez

(illustrator of New Beginnings in the book)
Kelly Martinez's love for drawing began at an early age, thanks to her dear Grandpa Joe. Grandpa Joe showed her how to draw many things–from balloons to people, to the skeletons inside the people–and they spent many hours drawing together.

Kelly loved cartoons since her childhood as well, and grew up watching and admiring animated works of art like Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry and The Ren & Stimpy Show. One of her favorite things to do to this day is character design, whether it be a hippopotamus covered in nipples, a rendering of what Cookie Monster would look like as a human being, or your boss when he's acting like an angry baboon.

Because of her love of art and drawing, Kelly chose a career as a graphic designer, and graduated with a degree in advertising art from The Art Center in Tucson, Arizona. To help bring home the bacon, Kelly can be found designing t-shirts for a screenprinting company in Oregon. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. She lives in Portland with her husband, dog, and small flock of chickens.
